For anyone interested, I was given the following information about an alternative option for selling mohair.
The buyer is Australian Mohair Services (AMS), owned by John Hoornweg. Some details are –
- Nathan at Australian Wool Network (AWN) will accept shipments to AMS.
- AMS will pay the freight and factor that into producers payments.
- AMS receives the consignment of Mohair and classes and charges 40-50 cents per kilo classing cost and .85 cents per kilo warehouse cost.
- AMS pays producers approximately 30 days from receiving the consignment of Mohair and the prices are based on the International price at that time.
- If there is a downturn at the time, negotiations can take place and AMS can hold off selling if agreed.
